Dudley Carver

Member Spotlight Apr 2008

Dudley has been chosen for this spotlight for April. His first meeting was the January planning meeting at Montevallo Traffic Safety Center. Steve Hebert and Jim Kalahan brought him along. It’s a wonder he ever came back after that hours long meeting.

Dudley is retired Military as a CW5, the highest rank you can achieve as a warrant officer. He had 30 years in and was assigned to several cavalry units. He was also a Ranger and was an instructor at the Ranger school in Dalonega. Dudley is now an Army civilian instructor pilot and teaches at Ft. Rucker.

When he was still active duty, he made a trailer to pull behind the Harley and rode that all around the US doing visits for the Army at various posts.

Dudley is not one to flash medals in your face, but he has some pretty high ranking ones. His buddies provided the information that they are too numerous to list but the two highest are the Legion of Merit and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Dudley has had KTM’s, Harleys’, and just about every dirt bike known to man. He was the President of the dirt bike club at Ft. Rucker back in the 80’s and they used to have sanctioned races and such on post. Dudley has ridden to Novia Scotia and many other places. He has been riding motorcycles for 39 years.

He came up with the idea of “mancation” and he and Jim and Steve take those a couple times a year. He’s pretty much “Dad” to the younger guys and mentors them “growing up” in the Army. He’s an all-round good guy. Steve Hebert also says that he met him back in 1997 when he went to Bosnia with his unit.

Dudley not only likes motorcycles, but he enjoys riding his horses with his wife Fran. Fran will ride two-up with him sometimes. They both like to camp. They have three sons, and 2 grandkids.
